Bird Chauffeurs Needed
Can you drive a bird that can't fly?

For many injured and orphaned wild birds in the Dallas area, the road to recovery leads to Hutchins and the Rogers Wildlife Rehabilitation Center! We need Bird Chauffeurs to drive them there. Can you drive a bird that can't fly?

Sparky's Pals and East Lake Pet Orphanage need your help!

East Lake Veterinary Hospital (ELVH) in the Lake Highlands area of Dallas is a drop-off location for injured and orphaned wild birds. Volunteers transport the birds daily to the Rogers Wildlife Rehabilitation Center (RWRC) in Hutchins, Texas (approx. 10 min. south of downtown Dallas) for rehabilitation.

We need volunteer drivers (our bird chauffeurs) to pick up the birds at ELVH (they will already be in boxes or crates ready to travel) and drive them to RWRC. We especially need drivers for the weekdays, but we appreciate you whenever you can help. We also need drivers who are reliable - the birds' lives depend on it!

How it works: The Bird Chauffeur for the day phones ELVH in the afternoon, allowing enough time to arrive there for pick-up based on the schedule below. If there are birds that day, the driver picks them up and drives them to RWRC.

Pick Up Schedule (We are currently in Fall Season)
Daily Pick-Up At ELVHSundayMonday - FridaySaturday
Baby Season (Spring-Summer)3:00pm6:00pm3:00pm
Fall - Winter 3:00pm4:00pm3:00pm

We need (at least) seven principal bird chauffeurs, one for each day of the week, and ideally would like to have some back-up volunteers lined up. Can you help us? Even if you can't commit to a regular schedule, if we could call you in an emergency, that would be very helpful!

This is a wonderful, successful program, but for it to continue to succeed we must have dedicated drivers. Please volunteer if you would like to help us transport birds for rehabilitation.

It’s a fun project, and a great way to help out our feathered friends!
